Carlos Alcaraz has defeated Novak Djokovic for the second straight time in the Wimbledon Championship. This time, he did it in straight sets as he won 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 winning the tiebreaker 7-4, and watching the game, it was evident who the better player was. Right from the jump, Alcaraz just looked faster and was hitting the ball with better precision. It was incredible to see a player of Djokovic's caliber, someone with 24 grand slam titles in their pocket, look like he had no answers to anything Alcaraz was doing especially in the first 2 sets.
The first 2 sets by Alcaraz were a complete demolition by the Spanish sensation as he broke Djokovic's serve twice in each set and ended up winning each set 6-2. Novak just looked lethargic and completely in his head. He missed a lot of shots that he would normally hit whether it was at the net or just regular ground strokes. His game looked very out of character. But we all knew that the 3rd set wasn't going to be as easy.
Novak looked much better in the 3rd set as he did a great job holding serve but he was still unable to break Alcaraz's serve. He had a few chances but could not capitalize. The 3rd set was hard fought as it went to 4-4. With Djokovic looking to extend the match, he must win his own service game to go up 5-4 so he doesn't find himself in a dangerous position where Alcaraz is serving for the game, especially with the way Carlos has been serving all game. Well, what could've gone wrong for Novak did go wrong as Alcaraz hit a flurry of incredible shots during Novak's service game and seized a commanding 5-4 lead with the Championship in reach. He then goes up 40-0 and finds himself with a Triple Championship point and at this point, everyone thought it was over. Well, it wasn't quite over yet as Alcaraz made some crucial mistakes in the next 3 points which led to a deuce, 40-40, where Novak seized his moment and broke Alcaraz's serve tying the 3rd set up 5-5 and then he easily won his service game so he was now up 6-5. If you are Alcaraz, you went from 5-4 40-0 on the verge of winning the Championship to down 5-6 in the blink of an eye against arguably the greatest Tennis player to ever live.
It is safe to say that many other players would have folded and ended up losing that 3rd set and at that point, we have a whole new match in our hands. Alcaraz, however, is not your typical 21-year-old and his mental prowess was on full display as he won his service game to tie it up 6-6 and won the tiebreaker 7-4.
At the end of the day, even if Novak had brought his A-game, Alcaraz was not losing this match. Some of the shots he was hitting were impossible to defend. Alcaraz has now won all 4 of his grand slam titles and it's no secret he's the new up-and-comer. Novak is still great but he will have to deal with this kid for the rest of his career however long that may be.
