The NFL regular season is so close and I'm getting restless. So here are my predictions for who will win the end-of-year NFL awards:
The categories are:
Most Valuable Player(MVP) Offensive Player of the Year(OPOY)
Defensive Player of the Year(DPOY)
Offensive Rookie of the Year(OROY)
Defensive Rookie of the Year(DROY)
Coach of the Year(COTY)
Comeback Player of the Year(CPTY)
MVP: Josh Allen
This one might be a surprise because the Bills lost Stefon Diggs, but I feel like that helps Allen's case. If Allen plays well, the fact that there isn't a big-name pass catcher will help his case as the narrative will be similar to what Mahomes did in 2022. He will have to put up big numbers just like Mahomes but not having a star-studded cast around him can help his MVP case.
OPOY: Derrick Henry
This season we will see a resurgence of the King himself as it feels like the NFL world has forgotten about him a little bit. With Lamar Jackson taking so much pressure off of Henry in the run game, I can see Henry nearing 2000 yards rushing
DPOY: TJ Watt
In recent years, the award has gone more and more to pass rushers. Myles Garrett and TJ Watt feel like the main 2 players who have the best shot at winning it because of that. Garrett won it last year and if it is close again between those 2 I think the voters will naturally lean toward TJ since Myles won it recently.
OROTY: Bo Nix
Yes, there's a little bias in my answer since I'm a Broncos fan but I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities. I believe Nix has a good shot to win it because of expectations. The Broncos, according to Pro Football Focus, were ranked dead last in terms of roster. So if Nix has a decent year with the "worst" roster in the league, he has a good chance to win it. If Nix and Caleb Williams have similar seasons, Nix will be given the nod just based on expectations before the season.
DROY: Laiatu Latu
I am not very familiar with the defensive rookies but I was able to watch him play a bit in the preseason opener vs the Broncos and he looked very solid and had a couple of chances at sacking Nix. He also seems like a nice guy so I'm rooting for him.
COTY: Raheem Morris
The Falcons recently acquired two good defensive players Matthew Judon and Justin Simmons. I believe this team is ready to win now and if they win the division, which seems very possible, Raheem Morris will get a lot of flowers for it because this team has been in the gutters for a good half-decade now.
CPTY: Aaron Rodgers
If he has a decent statistical year and the Jets make the postseason, the award is his. Coupled with the fact that he is coming off a very significant injury like an achilles and plays in New York City where all the attention is at, I just don't see a scenario of anyone else winning this award unless he is atrocious this year.
